Friends of Fort Townsend (FOFT) has been active for over 20 years. We help Fort Townsend State Park by providing trail maintenance, educating visitors about the flora, fauna and history of the park, as well as promoting use of this unique state park.

FORT TOWNSEND STATE PARK
Fort Townsend State Park is a 367-acre Natural Forest Area with campground and 3,960 feet of saltwater shoreline on Port Townsend Bay. The heavily wooded park has a rich military history dating from pre-civil war days. Abundant plants, wildlife, and 6.5 miles of trails make Fort Townsend State Park a popular destination for hiking, jogging, birding, picnicking, plant identification and beach exploration. Historic remnants and interpretive panels can be found throughout the park.

FOFT was organized by two couples who lived nearby who saw the need to improve and maintain the park. Soon they discovered other people were interested in volunteering and they joined together to make that happen. FOFT volunteers named the trails and designed a trail map showing distances.
Today, FOFT volunteers continue trail maintenance and added a firewood project and more. The work we continue to do is made possible with the help of people who love the Park. We always welcome new members and volunteers to keep Fort Townsend State Park the “gem of the Olympic Peninsula” that it is today!
